Barra season 2020 is but just a few hours away👏 My weekly Townsville Bulletin fishing column today reveals some thoughts by local experts Dale Welldon, Hodgie, Andrew Mead and Aaron Eves. They tell us where and how to fish during the first days of the season. And long time Townsville sportfisher Garry McGlone shows off a thumping queenfish. Good luck everyone 🎣😃 ... See MoreSee Less

When does it open mate have heard a few different times

Was happy to take part in a Qld Fisheries boat ramp survey last weekend - twice checked Friday and Sunday.
Ol' mate asked about released fish and I mentioned GT or giant trevally - he wasn't interested... reckons trevally are too hard to identify.
Also told him about the huge number of sharks taking hooked fish and again not interested.
Pretty bl00dy useless survey in my opinion - let's not record the issues of the day!
And as far as fish like GT's and other trevally species are concerned, just because they're not a pretty red table fish, that doesn't mean their economic worth in the recreational fishing industry shouldn't be seriously considered, this one caught and released in Cleveland Bay.
Well fished Harrison Finger

I am now keeping count of how many fish get sharked every trip and putting it in my fisheries log. I bet I will get a phone call to not do it but I think it is the most important piece of information that can be gathered at this stage

Yes took part in the same survey and mentioned the sharks to him as lost a few good fish to them... ‘ya a few have mentioned the number of sharks’ ... agree... not at all interested

I seen golden trev for 15bucks a kilo, red emperor for 20 a kilo whole. Someone’s buying them lol

Next time try to get his supervisors name and number. Your on the money though.

Yum yum

Good fish Harrison Finger

GTs are far more of interest to me than table fish. I’ve spent a lot more money trying to catch them than I have on trout or other highly prized table fish.

Well said

We are good at both

Wow Harrison great fish mate
